Gig Economy

In the gig economy, new forms of labour have emerged without corresponding labour relations, regulations, policies and labour laws.

When we look at it from the perspective of a food courier, there seems are a lot of obstacles.

• Most communities will close their gates after ten o'clock in the evening, and residents can swipe their cards to enter the community.

• During the pandemic, couriers were prohibited from entering all the communities, and all customers had to go to the gate of the community to pick up packages.

• Some small vendors are clustered together without clear road signs and house numbers, which makes it difficult for novice couries to find.

• Riders need to wait in line for elevators in buildings, especially during peak meal delivery periods. Most riders will be late for food delivery due to such reasons.

• Some buildings require riders to use only part of the elevators instead of all elevators to ensure order in the building.

Confronting the real-world problem head-on

How might we better delivery experience among buildings?

Cococu is an add-on function to the existing takeaway software, which optimises the delivery route and provides tips to guide food couriers through the building complex by integrating information provided by other food couriers and customers.

At the same time, a free trial period is offered to encourage users to come down to the building to pick up their food, in collaboration with a third party video platform, to reduce the pressure on the delivery staff.

Towards to the future world

Our proposal tried to solve the existing problems through the angle of relations between labours, customers and platforms. However, there are still many aspects we cannot cover. Government involvement is highly demanded on releasing related laws and policies.
